Are you and your children ready for baseball season? Dr. Baranski has some great preemptive advice on how to avoid injuries!
He explains – A lot of children are going out using muscles that they have not used in a long time, or perhaps never.
Since many of them are being streamlined into particular sports, in leagues that go all year around, they are using the same muscles day after day.
This translates into repetitive injuries that, unless identified and treated, can take years to heal.
Common Baseball Injuries include:
- Ulnar collateral ligament tear or dysfunction – ligament inside the elbow. This can happen to pitchers.
It is vital, Dr. B says, that parents monitor their child’s activity to minimize chances of injury.
But what do you do if there is already an injury?
Advanced Spine and Sport can help: Most commonly they will recommend, rest first, ice, and a diagnostic MRI or X-ray at a radiology center.
Dr. Baranksi and his team of experts will go over the report results with the parents and patient, explain what is going on, and how they can help.
Their main Goal – get them back into activities SAFELY. They treat your child like their own – and do their due diligence.
Often recommended: therapy of different modalities to increase range of motion, decrease pain, and strengthen muscles for that specific activity. However, Dr. B. stresses that one sport may not be the way to go – variety is better for young muscles.
