Ruben Chavez and his lovely wife, Teresa

Ruben Chavez joins Dr. Bunny to discuss living through hell, living to tell the tale, and finding his purpose in life. Ruben became a heroin addict at age 15 and spent the next 37 years chasing the drug.

Ruben served over 25 years in institutions, became a bank robber – and basically did just about anything to get his fix. He has 3 siblings that are dead now due to substance abuse.

Ruben shares about his experience in prison, and how prison changes a person. He spent 6 years in solitary confinement and tells us how holding a baby one day in the visiting area created feelings that were especially upsetting, and how those feelings led to anger and rage.

Ruben’s wife, Teresa, also joins the interview to discuss her part of Ruben’s journey. Find out how a good girl from Huntington Beach – who never sought out “bad boys” – met & married the “bad boy turned good”. She was struck immediately by Ruben’s spirituality and gentle spirit. A fascinating story in itself!

Ruben has found the answer to living without drugs and alcohol, but it took him a lifetime of pain and prisons. He now helps other people on their path to sobriety.  He loves the saying “I’m grateful for the gift of a new life”, and it’s a life that Ruben has found through a 12-step program. “My responsibility is to stay clean and sober, and help another alcoholic/addict. That is my primary purpose”, he says.

Ruben tells us about the turning point in his life and how he asked God for an answer, and received it: In order to change your life you have to have a change of thought and attitude.

Ruben shares how he created Ruben’s Place sober living house, and how he & Teresa now have 4 sober living homes.

Tune in and listen to Ruben’s incredible journey through addiction, pain and recovery – and how he has turned his life into a purpose to help others. This is truly an uplifting and inspirational story that you do not want to miss!
