LifeRhythms Radio: Episode 10 – The Neuropsychology of Oversensitivity – Featured Guest: Catherine Gruener

Welcome to Episode 10 of LifeRhythms Radio!

In this episode, Robert interviews Catherine Gruener, Psychotherapist and Founder of Gruener Consulting. In this informative interview, Robert and Catherine will be talking about “The Neuropsychology of Oversensitivity” – an enlightening conversation that shines the light on oversensitivity and brings this topic to a whole new level. With wisdom, insight, enthusiasm and passion, Catherine dives deep as she talks about physical and mental over-sensitivities, synesthesia and the integration of mind, body and spirit. If you consider yourself empathic, HSP, emotionally intelligent, ‘gifted’, creative and / or ‘in-tune’, this is an episode of LifeRhythms Radio that you will deeply resonate with.

Also in this episode, you will hear Catherine’s song selection from Evlov’s library titled “Integration”, (written in 528 hz) as well as her inspiration for choosing it. Definitely be in touch with her after listening to the interview and tell her that you heard her powerful interview on LifeRhythms Radio. She will be more than happy to connect with you! Catherine also has a very special offering that she is offering to you guys and you will be very happy that you have reached out to her!

About Catherine Gruener:

As a psychotherapist, psychometrician and researcher who earned a masters degree in Neuropsychology in the early 90s before Neuropsychology became cool, Catherine has dedicated her life to understanding the mind-body-spirit connection, creation, and change process. This desire, in pursuit of the soul, through study of the brain-behavior models developed from tragedy. In high school, her best friend’s brother was hit by a car, went into a coma, and though regained awareness and use of his body, his personality never returned. She witnessed what tragedy does to an individual, their family, and the far-reaching ripples across friends and communities. Once she started working in the field of neuropsychology, more questions arose.

A bit of a “life-long learner” fanatic in pursuit of proving that life is more than stimulus and response, Catherine ended up “doing it all” in the mental health field over the last 3 decades, from teaching and research, to clinical practice and social advocacy. She has taught numerous courses from introductory college classes to workshops on effective parent techniques, brain-behavior approaches, and the social and emotional issues of gifted children, with private, state, and national institutions. Her research initiatives span community wide Drug and Alcohol Needs Assessment in conjunction with Johns Hopkins University, early detection of Alzheimer’s disease through Loyola University Medical Center, to supporting PTSD research initiatives for veterans of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom at the Veterans Administration. She has provided a range of clinical assessments and direct counseling services in inpatient, outpatient, and residential facilities across the U.S and on the island of Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands. She earned a second master’s degree from Adler University in Clinical Counseling, became a certified Positive Discipline Educator, was trained in Parent Management Techniques from the Yale Parent Center, then trained in counseling gifted people through the Illinois Association for Gifted Children, and has numerous professional acronyms behind her name, board position titles, and service lines, supporting the theory that she may be addicted to learning and continues to pursue understanding the mind-body-soul miracle.

Intensity, asynchrony, sensitivity, and the neuro-atypical communities called to her. Through Gruener Consulting, Catherine works with neuro-atypical children, families, and adults, assessing their needs and lifestyle approach, providing them with skill-based training, motivation, neurobehavioral mind-body work, counseling and depth psychotherapy. She sees her work as supporting individuals in returning to their core, re-connecting with their soul purpose, re-claiming their lives, removing the blocks, and does this through encouraging, educating, counseling and teaching, with enthusiasm, joy, and agape love.

Though Gruener Consulting only began operating in 2012, Catherine has been recognized worldwide for her outstanding leadership and commitment to the mental wellness profession. She has been inducted into Elite American Educators, Elite Women Worldwide, with inclusion of her biography in the 2017 Marquis Who’s Who.  She was honored as a lifetime member and “Outstanding Professional of the Year” by Cambridge Who’s Who, has been elected as a “Top Female Executive” three times since 2012, had a chapter dedicated to her in the “Top 101 Industry Expert publication,” and received recognition through Worldwide for a Lifetime Achievement.  In 2016 she was honored for her lifetime achievement as a professional, inducted as an honored Lifetime member of the International Association of Top Professionals and was named “Visionary of the Year” in 2017.

In this episode, Robert interviews Stefanie Tovar, a talented performer, label-signed recording artist, yogini and founder of nonprofit, Hanuman Homies. In this ‘truthful’ interview, Robert and Stefanie will be talking about “Staying True” – a topic that many of us tend to ponder about in our daily lives. Stefanie shares her history and powerful journey by remaining true to herself and what she has been called to do in her life. From performing onstage to discovering her calling and resonance with yoga and chanting, you will discover why so many people have found such power and liberation from her classes, music and community outreach. You will definitely find warmth, joy and inspiration in your hearts when listening to Stefanies interview.

Also in this episode, you will hear a song from “Shine a Light”, (Stefanie’s debut album) titled, “Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo” as well as the inspiration that helped her select this powerful and enlightening recording. Please remember to be in touch with her after listening to the interview and tell her that you heard her speak on LifeRhythms Radio. Stefanie will be more than happy to connect with you! Definitely reach out and visit her website links for her music, business and what she is up to with her nonprofit, Hanuman Homies. You’ll be very happy that you reached out to her!

About Stefanie Tovar:

Stefanie Tovar began her yoga journey as a performing artist through the practice of Baptiste Power Yoga in 2004. Stefanie travelled the world as a performing artist and found yoga gave her a sense of groundedness and serenity, no matter where her work and suitcases took her.

While touring in her professional offering of performing arts, Stefanie felt a feeling of isolation and disconnect from the world around her and craved an opportunity to hold space for herself and others to make a lasting impact.

Tragedy of losing a loved one suddenly hit her heart, and she decided to make a big change; from the stage, makeup and lights to the dark solace of the yoga room to process her grief, diving into introspection to uncover a new way of being in the world.

Initially Stef thought she would get her Yoga Teacher Training Certificate and move to NYC to reclaim her pursuit of her ambitions in the arts, but love and yoga kept her in Texas. It was there that she met her Bhakti Yoga Teacher Sean Johnson, of Sean Johnson and the Wild Lotus Band who lead her back to her creative spirit…This time sharing her love of music and storytelling to help herself and others heal and renew in a yoga room, one breath at a time. Stef is honored to be able to share part of her Bhakti Yoga practice with the support of Sony’s label, The Orchard through the release of her Debut EP Album “Shine a Light”.

Stefanie also found inspiration to bring about more tangible action within her Yoga community after shifts in power November 2017. Stef’s Facebook Group, Hanuman Homies became a nonprofit entity, Hanuman Homies in April 2017.

Hanuman Homies champions nonprofits and vulnerable communities by hosting donation drives and Outreach Yoga with hopes to spread awareness and more acts of Seva Yoga: Yoga that fuses Karma (Action) Yoga with Bhakti (Devotion) Yoga. Hanuman Homies also offers yoga to vulnerable communities with a special focus on youth.

Stefanie feels so blessed to have yoga, social outreach, and arts in her life, and hopes to be able to share resilient light and love with Yoga with you with all of her being – whether through streaming loving sounds or mindful movement.

She vulnerably shares her experiences with recovery and humor as well as revealing where vulnerability plays an important role in the mix of the two. About Jessica Landon:

As an actor and comedienne, Jessica has appeared on Comedy Central’s MADtv, Robot Chicken, Nickelodeon’s Drake & Josh, and NBC’s Medical Investigations. She partied with Hugh Hefner, appeared in glossy magazines and created the appearance of having a glamorous life. It all came at a cost. A few years into her acting career, Jessica spiraled into a late stage, nonfunctioning alcoholic.

Jessica’s harrowing journey has led her to numerous rehabs, mental institutions, the streets, homes and beds of sexual predators, and jail. Ultimately, her addiction left her with a brain hemorrhage and multiple organ failure as a result of lying in a drunken stupor in one spot of a street musician’s filthy rug for a month. The acid from her urine burned holes through the skin of her hips and tailbone. When Jessica was admitted to the hospital, she weighed 78 pounds, had a blood alcohol level of .503, and a rampant blood staph infection. She was told by her doctor her wouldn’t have survived the night without medical intervention.

After surviving so many tussles with death, the pain associated with drinking finally eclipsed the memory of pleasure, and Jessica was finally able to give up alcohol, fully embracing a life of forgiveness, gratitude, love, and sobriety.

She just finished writing her memoir “Human On Fire” which you will be able to purchase on my website humanonfire.com in the near future.

About Andi Starr:

Andi Starr is a classically trained pianist, identical twin, and pastor’s daughter, who at twenty-two-years old, picked up a $100 guitar to help her find a way out of the religious upbringing that no longer worked for her.

Over a decade and six albums later, the resulting music reflects not only the ambiance and dynamics of her classical upbringing but has garnered comparisons to The Cranberries, Joni Mitchell, and Tori Amos. Starr’s particular gift is in turning difficult subject matter into heartfelt, sometimes haunting, and always beautiful compositions. Culturespill Magazine states: “Andi Starr hits the right notes: the notes that hurt, the notes that know you, the notes that make you meet yourself.”

As a multi-instrument, singer-songwriter and producer, Starr first started performing in her hometown of Portland, Oregon, where she worked with indie producer Larry Crane (Slater Kinney, Cat Power, Elliott Smith), and played sold-out shows at some of the premier venues, including Mississippi Studios and the legendary Crystal Ballroom.

But it wasn’t always easy. Starr battled intense, debilitating stage fright in her early years. Troubled by this and haunted by overwhelming nighttime dreams, she turned to psychology (particularly the work of Carl Jung) to understand her dreams and overcome her fear, which also, in turn, deepened her songwriting.

Starr has received much radio attention for her work, including Sirius XM (Coffee House Station 33), KINK (101.9 FM) in Portland, Oregon, and KMTT (103.7 FM, The Mountain) in Seattle, Washington; has had songs featured in television and film; and has played over one hundred shows (including the prestigious venue Crystal Ballroom). Her song “American Doll (Live at Reed College)” was aired over the opening credits in Espisode 12, Season 2, of the television show “Charmed,” as released on the DVD version.

Andi recently moved to S. Lake Tahoe where she is currently writing and producing a new album with guitarist and singer songwriter, Kevin Whalen.

“Do what you love, and the world will folllow.” – Andi Starr
