~My Last Interview With Dr. Bunny Vreeland On My Journey To A Healthy Weight~

 

Dyanne_last_show_borderMy mind set is in a better place from the hypnotherapy provided by Dr. Bunny.  I feel much better physically with Dr. Brian Ross’s chiropractic care. I have less pain and inflammation than I have had in the past 20 years.

I also have a wonderful hairdresser, JoPaulo from JoPaulo EcoLounge on Thompson in Ventura, who has really made a difference with his hair products taming my frizzy hair from years of over-processing and nutrition advice. I get compliments daily on my hair, and that does wonders for me.

A healthy mind, and body is vital to feel good.

My approach has always been, as my husband says to me, “Slow and steady wins the race”. I do everything that way, and I have accomplished some amazing things in my life.

My career in banking from 1989 to 2004, started as a part-time teller. I learned enough to be able to set up a loan department for a Savings and Loan institution and finishing with being on the ground floor of opening a small, community bank by the end of my career.

I graduated from high school in 1986 and finished my Master’s in Business Administration by 2008. The takeaway is to enjoy the journey and keep learning along the way. I passed the real estate exam after a second try in 2007, and I sold my friend’s house for the desired price within 4 days in 2016.

I have learned that there is nothing that I can’t do unless I stop believing in myself. Even though I have only lost 10 lbs in the last 3 months and that is not how weight loss usually happens today in our society of instant gratification, I know that I will do it my way and permanently.

For the past decade, the scale has only gone up not down. This is a positive sign that I am on the right track, and I haven’t even started an exercise regime due to my current physical state.

My portions are finally under control, and I am very aware of my food choices. I want to make positive changes that will stick with me for the rest of my life.

Dr. Bunny Vreeland has helped me tremendously with my self-esteem issues. I even had fun buying colorful clothes after eliminating some weight, which I hated shopping for most of my life.

I am thankful to have met Dr. Bunny and Dr. Ross.

I can hold my head up high and feel good about my journey.

Dr. Ross In His Own Words:

I have previously touched upon how important the body is and how important the health of the body is.  Treating the body well by providing the proper nutrients which become the building blocks that the body can utilize to rebuilding replacement cells and tissue.

Chiropractic has a wide range of applications for the improvement of overall health.  The integrity of the spine is paramount.  The curves in the neck, the curve in the mid and low back are extremely important to maintain as well as taking care of the discs between the vertebrae.

Overall the nerves that exit from the spinal cord will run every cell tissue and organ in the body.  For example, the nerves that exit from mid-back area help to run the liver, stomach, pancreas and kidneys.  It is important to make sure that the nervous system is connected to the body and the brain can read the signal from the body and send signals to run the body properly.

It is important to look at how you do things with your body.  Shoes are really important.   The positional sensors are most abundant in your ankles.  You don’t want to put too much pressure on the ankles because it can interfere with the brain knowing where the body is positioned.    High heel shoes tend to interfere with the ankles by putting them in a different position and can cut off that information to the brain.  Also it puts extra weight pressure on the foot which can over time cause bunions to form.  Good footwear is really important for overall comfort and health.

I am going to share with you a couple of patient stories that I have encountered in practice.  I do not claim to treat any particular condition or illness however I have been involved in treating several people with difficult situations that did reverse.

Christine came to my office with a lot of low back pain, hip and pelvic pain.  She wore very high heel shoes.  Her job was not the best for her as she was on her feet in these high heels most of the day.  I took x-rays and was able to see that her hip was out of balance.   One side was clearly higher than the other.  This put a lot of pressure on the lower back which was causing a lot of pain.  As a coincidence, Christine and her husband were trying to have a baby.  She had been to various fertility doctors and unfortunately they were disappointed.

Christine finished her care plan with me.  Her hips became level and her low back was moving normally and she went back to her job.  I received a phone call a couple of months later and she said “guess what?   I am pregnant”.  I congratulated her and her husband.  She asked me if I thought it was possible that the treatment could have helped with her pregnancy.  I explained to her that there is really no way I could take credit for her conception however the only thing I could really say is that if the hips are balanced that might make it easier for her to get pregnant.  She went on to have a very healthy baby girl.

I had another patient that had constant headaches for 8 years.  Her name was Sylvia.  Sylvia came in and she had upper back, neck and shoulder pain.  She had severe headaches.  I took x-rays and gave her a complete exam.  I determined that her neck was very straight and had lost its natural curve.  I put together a treatment plan for Sylvia and was in the process of treating her.  One morning after I had seen her the night before my phone rang first thing in the morning and it was Sylvia.  Normally when you get a call from a patient first thing in the morning after an office visit you question “what could be going on?”  Sylvia stated that she woke up and there was no more headache.  She was so excited she had to call me to let me know.  We followed the rest of the treatment plan and Sylvia is currently headache free.

Chiropractic can help in many situations. It also allows you to have full genetic expression meaning that the nervous system and the brain are connected and body is running at it’s optimum potential.  The cells are running as Mother Nature meant them to be.  By being out of pain one naturally looks healthier and refreshed due to the fact that the pain is gone.

Dyanne Van Der Kamp: My Journey To A Healthy Weight – My 10th Week – Back With Dr. Brian Ross!

Hi, it’s Dyanne and I’d like to continue with another show with my friend and Chiropractor, Dr. Brian Ross from Calabasas, CA.

Here’s Dr. Ross in his own words:  

DVK-Dr. Brian #2 show_borderThere are three causes of a fixation or a bone that has moved out of its normal position. That fixation can be virtually anywhere in the body.  It doesn’t have to be the back or neck or lower back.  It could be a shoulder, elbow, wrist, knee or even ankle and foot.

The first cause of a bone moving out of its normal position is stress.  Stress  may be coming from home, work, and school or even driving down the freeway in heavy traffic.  The stress hormone is called Cortisol which  tightens up the blood vessels in the body and causes an increase in blood pressure.

The blood pressure increase is to prepare the body for “fight or flight”.  Muscles become very tense and the tension can easily pull one or more bones out of its original position and can cause uneven alignment of the body.

The second cause of a misalignment is physical. For example cleaning out your garage, carrying heavy packages, bending or twisting   Also exercising too vigorously or performing exercises the wrong way.

The third cause is chemical.  Eating foods that have MSG like in Chinese food or processed foods that have a lot of chemical additives and preservatives.  These chemicals can cause muscles to contract especially if the body is out of alignment.  Chemicals can cause muscle spasms which can move a bone out of its correct position.  Chemicals can also trigger pain and inflammation.  The good news is that by getting your alignment checked on a regular basis by a chiropractor you can avoid the above conditions.

Whenever there is an injury to the body, the physiology of the repair of the body is always the same. This is represented by the “Three Phases of Care”.

Three Phases of Care:

The first phase of care is when you realize that you have been injured in some way.

The second phase of care is when the structure starts to come back  (bones that have moved out of position and start to realign with chiropractic care. This may involve the neck, back, shoulder, knees, ankle feet etc.) Bones will start to move back into their original position.  Ligaments normally hold the bones together also start to come back to normal position.

The third phase of care is the strengthening of ligaments and they start to hold the bones.  Muscles will then come back to their normal position.  Once you’ve gone through the strengthening phase your body will feel more powerful and will give you the most miles per gallon. The ability to optimize the bodies ability to function at a higher level.  The body has now repaired itself.

Postural correction:  When the neck goes forward from either an accident or working on the computer too many hours it reverses the curvature of the neck.  When the neck is straightened it is termed a reversal of the neck curve. This puts a lot of pressure on the upper back and you may wind up getting a Dowagers hump on the upper back. Postural correction can reverse this condition.

Structure leads to function.  One of the tools to reverse that situation would be a good foam cervical pillow such as a Tempur-pedic.  In order to use the pillow properly you have to set the foam up.  You have to roll the pillow three times in one direction and then three times in the other direction and the foam is ready for you to sleep on.  Your body heat will activate the foam.

Nutrition:  When you are going through a postural correction you need to support the body with proper nutrition.  Most commercial vitamins are synthetic.  The supplementation that I provide is a nutraceutical.  Medical foods that the body utilizes 100%.   With proper nutrition the body can manufacture all the cells that it needs to build replacement tissue.

Dyanne Van Der Kamp: My Journey To A Healthy Weight – My 9th Week – And Introducing Dr. Brian Ross!

 

Hi, it’s Dyanne and I’d like to introduce you to my friend and Chiropractor, Dr. Brian Ross from Calabasas to talk with you about how he’s been helping me. 

Here’s Dr. Ross in his own words:

DRROSS1_border2My story is from a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away (25 years ago)  I was in another job and  part of my job was to take measurements on buildings and  verifying the type of construction used in the building.   My job required that I take photos of the buildings.

I was using an older style camera with a view finder and was backing out into the street to fit the building inside the viewfinder and suddenly a car hit me and flipped me over the car onto the pavement and the driver took off.  I was taken to the hospital.

I had lost the feeling in my legs and the orthopedic came over to talk to me and he said I do not know I’m going to give you some medication and I’m going to have a neurologist also evaluate you.  Next  the neurologist saw me and he also said he did not know. The hospital sent me home with lots of medications on Workers Compensation and little hope.

I stayed down for 6 weeks.  So the next question was “what do I do now”?

My friends came over and dragged me kicking and screaming to a chiropractor.   The chiropractor explained that she might get back 80% of my feeling but couldn’t guarantee 100%   I said  “I am  yours”.  Nine months later all the feeling returned to my legs.

The chiropractor said, “You should do this”.

I knew I wanted to be able to give the same gift to others.   I returned back to school (at night) and completed pre-med curriculum and gained admittance to chiropractic school.  It took 10 years in total to become a chiropractor.  They say chiropractic is not a profession that you choose sometimes it chooses you.  I am different than most other chiropractors that are out there today.  The scariest day in my life was when the orthopedic and the neurologist both said “I don’t know”.  I will never forget that and it is served me well when I complete a history and consultation with a patient.  I know what it is like to be the patient.

I take no shortcuts I always spend at least 1 hour carrying out a complete physical exam on every patient.  I usually request a set of x-rays in order to see what is going on with the body structure.   I will find out what is going on with and will complete a full diagnosis along with a treatment plan to resolve the problem.

It is important to treat the body holistically.  I treat the whole body from the feet to the head on every visit.  This opens up the nervous system.  This allows the brain to reconnect with the bodies nervous system.  If the nervous system is relaying information to the body then the body can heal from the inside out.  Another interesting fact is  the nervous system runs the immune system.  If you have an open nervous system you will have an optimal immune system.  I always tell my patients that when they have an open nervous system “Your Power Is On!”

Dr. Bunny And I Discuss In The 8th Interview –  How Important It Is To Love Yourself.

Dyanne_8_borderI mentioned that I must not love myself if I let my weight get so out of hand.

Dr. Bunny did not agree with me blaming myself, since this struggle happened long before I could really make that decision for myself.

I had told her that I was looking through old pictures in preparation for my father’s 75th birthday last week, and I had found pictures where I was much thinner, but I was still chunky in the legs and middle.

I told her that at this point I could not visualize myself being smaller, and if I couldn’t imagine it, how would I achieve my goal of a healthy weight?

I let her know that when she told me in hypnotherapy that my legs will be ‘long and slender’ that I could not see that image or feel it.

(Note from Dr. Bunny: What I actually said in Hypnotherapy was: “Picture and imagine your legs becoming more and more slender.”)

My thought process is to automatically self-sabotage. I told her that I had been in pain and had many issues that have caused me not to feel good for at least 12 years, which could be a contributing factor to my lack of desire to exercise and eliminate weight.

We discussed how this is all changing now with the hypnotherapy and chiropractic care that I am receiving.

I told her how I met my Chiropractor and his wife at my first open house for a home that I was selling.

I kept his card for approximately 6 months before making an appointment. I was extremely impressed with him from our first meeting, and I knew that I wanted to see if he could help me, but he was over 45 miles away.

After my first appointment one day, I was so impressed that I have been seeing this Chiropractor two times per week for about 3 months. I feel better than ever.

He will be a guest on the show, soon, to discuss my condition and educate listeners on how to take care of themselves.

My 7th Interview – Before My 5th Hypnotherapy Session With Dr. Bunny ~  

dyanne -7-borderIn this interview, we are going to answer the question that was asked in the last session: “What is a good replacement for Cheetos?”

We discussed how very often one habit is replaced with another.

I explained to Dr. Bunny that I do not wish to focus on the diet and exercise portion of my journey to a healthy weight, nor do I want to replace that unhealthy snack with another.

That has never been my favored approach.  Only once before, was I motivated to diet like I am now, and I was successful.

I want to understand the reason that I would turn to such an unhealthy choice such as Cheetos.

On this journey, I have been making good food choices for the most part and experiencing a degree of success. My clothes are starting to look baggy.  The number on the scale is going in the right direction.  Yet, I have always turned to food for comfort, and I want to reverse that.

If you recall in our last interview, I was a little down, but now I am back to my new happy self.  I realized that it was hormonal, which is cyclical for me.

Dr. Bunny said to me that I would probably have to buy some new clothes soon. I shared how I wasn’t looking forward to that as it has always been a nightmare for me to shop for clothes.  I realize that I am not the only one who finds it difficult to find something to wear.  This is a common problem for many of us, but it has been a lifelong struggle for me.

Dr. Bunny did notice that I am looking better and my clothes are getting baggier.  I have also been able to communicate better, whereas before I would keep my feelings inside, and probably stuff something in my mouth for comfort. I am really starting to be more assertive, and I am excited about this change.

Dyanne Van Der Kamp: My Journey To A Healthy Weight – My 6th Week!

The Sixth Interview With Dr. Bunny – Before my Fourth Hypnotherapy Session ~

Cheetos_borderWe discuss how frustrated I am that progress is so slow after one month of dedicated effort on my part.

I remind myself that I am on a journey, so I need to enjoy it and not to just focus on the destination.

We discuss eating healthy salads and how Dr. Bunny makes her own salad dressing.  I joke with Dr. Bunny and mention that I eat salad just for the dressing.

She does not think it is funny.  She truly believes that eating healthy, whole foods is extremely important and wants me to understand that, so I can be successful.

Then, I confess that I eat 3 to 4 small bags of Cheetos per week from the vending machine at work, which are 310 calories per bag.

Dr. Bunny is appalled because Cheetos do not have any nutritional value whatsoever, and the calories equate to eating a small meal. I let her know that I account for those empty calories by not eating something else later, but Dr. Bunny still suggests that I need a healthy replacement for this crunchy, stress-relieving treat.

“Why Cheetos”, you ask, as my go to?  Because I am a stress eater, and I have told myself that the crunchiness and saltiness are comforting at those moments.

At work, I have gotten into this bad habit because something always happens to trigger this stress eating or at this point, it has just become habitual.

Dr. Bunny asks those who are listening to stay tuned to hear what healthy alternative replaces my addiction to Cheetos.

This Is The Fifth Interview With Dr. Bunny – Before my Third Hypnotherapy Session ~ 

dyanne-photo_5_borderWe discuss how I am transforming my mind. It is true that your thoughts are powerful and, when you think about something, you can change it.

I am happier now than I can ever remember.

I am eating very clean and almost no carbohydrates, religiously, with the exception of fruits and vegetables, since my body does not process sugar correctly.

I am making my own food and hardly eating out.

I always had a feeling of being overwhelmed and that is no longer the case. I have told the tennis players in my neighborhood that I will soon be joining them when the weather permits.

Dr. Bunny and I discuss past romantic relationships and how being fat always became an issue to men for me. (Here is a photo of me and one of my boyfriends from years ago.)

Dr. Bunny says that I have attracted this, and it has become my reality. Changing this mindset will affect my ability to transform myself on this journey to a healthy weight.

My 4th Week:  The Underlying Causes or Reasons

Dr. Bunny and I discuss how I was ‘skinny’ for a minute.

I share with Dr. Bunny that I feel negative about being skinny because in the past, I considered myself to be conceited when I loved how I looked and felt when I was ‘skinny.’

I am remembering and talking about a lot of old memories and history that I kept pretty buried.

Also, I was molested by two older men.  I told Dr. Bunny that I was molested by two older ‘gentlemen.’

She told me that they were NOT gentlemen and we had a discussion about how I held that in my memory.

Being fat made me invisible and not prey to these predators or my feelings of being vain, but it also made me depressed. I no longer love myself because of how my extra weight makes me look and feel or the damage that it has done to my health.

I eat very clean. A doctor had introduced me to a book that was called “Wheat Belly”, and I learned to stay away from genetically modified foods (GMOs).

I think that if I can just change my mind with Dr. Bunny as I have done with my diet that I can be successful on my journey to healthy weight.

I think things are starting to ‘shift’.

Dyanne Van Der Kamp: My Journey To A Healthy Weight – My 3rd Week!

Noticing  That My Clothes Are Looser!

 Dr. Bunny and I discuss how my week went after my first hypnotherapy session. 
 I was much happier and focused on eating properly. 
 
I am also afraid to fail on my journey to a healthy weight because I have not had any kind of long term success in the past. 
 
I shared the health conditions that I have been diagnosed with such as sleep apnea, heart arrhythmia, which is an irregular heart beat, and insulin resistance. I currently use a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine for sleeping because sleep apnea can be dangerous if untreated and may be the underlying cause of the arrhythmia.. 
 
I am told by the doctors constantly that the sleep apnea and high blood pressure can be reversed if I shed the extra weight, which is why I am so motivated. 
 
My clothes are looser after this first week, but Dr. Bunny mentioned not to fixate on the scale as weight fluctuates throughout the day for may reasons. She says to pay more attention to the way my clothes fit and how my body is changing. 
 
I am ready for my next hypnotherapy session, which immediately follows our interview.
