Spring is here! ‘Tis the season for running – It’s the time of many fun events – 10k runs, 5k runs and marathons.
We all want to get in shape! How about running?
WAIT! Before you do anything, listen to Dr. Baranski’s first show on running injuries!

You can avoid 80% of all injuries by doing what Dr. Baranski suggests and that is… You must get in shape to run!

You need to train your muscles properly to endure stress running is going to put on your body.
How do you do this?
Dr. B. suggests Pre-run workouts!
Pre-Run Workouts — Goal is to Strengthen muscles
- Strong Hips and glutes – help stabilize the pelvis.
- Calves, legs, and hamstrings need to be stretched out
- Do NOT push your speed or push your distance too quickly. (Even experienced runners can get injured)
Do your “due diligence”, Dr. B. reminds runners. Take your time with your workout and you will be fine!
Common Runner Injuries
- Runner’s Knee – Attila Tendonitis.
- Achilles Tendonitis – Swelling of Achilles tendon.
- Planar Fasciitis – Inflammation at the bottom of foot.
- Shin Splints – Pain on the front of the leg.
- Stress Factors – When runners keep going out and pounding their bodies. When runners train too hard and too fast.
- Iliotibial band Syndrome – (ITB) Syndrome – Tenderness on outside of knee and hip due to overtraining – too many miles or increase time too fast.
