Ask Dr. Bunny. Singing people back home? Marc Bachrach, guest.

Marc Bachrach

Marc Bachrach joins Dr. Bunny to discuss being a Cantor, hospice chaplain, and singing hospice clients across the rainbow – Marc sings them back home.  Tune in as Marc shares how he began this journey, and some incredible stories. This is a beautiful, inspiring interview, with a very special, talented man who has a wonderful gift.

About Interfaith Cantor, Marc Bachrach:

Couples hire Cantor Marc to brighten their wedding ceremonies with his unique blend of warmth, spiritual “gravitas”, and light-hearted humor.

Rich, bass-baritone  singing and chanting, accompanied by guitar and mandolin, are unique additions many  couples choose Cantor Marc to provide, especially during the processional.

“Every couple, every family and group of friends is unique.”

Cantor Marc loves connecting with them and crafting a joyous celebration of marriage — an intimate sacred space filled with love, gratitude, and heartfelt emotions.

Cantor Marc makes sure everyone understands all the ritual elements and language that he’s helped the couple pick for their nuptials. Each person there is made to feel welcome and included — in some ceremonies, they join Cantor Marc by singing simple phrases. Some wedding parties even join him during the closing benediction, raising their hands together in the ancient Rabbinical Blessing, now universally known as The Vulcan Salute- “Live Long and Prosper!”

For 40 years, Cantor Marc has officiated in Southern California synagogues and at private ceremonies from Kauai to New York. He has served as the spiritual leader of Makom Ohr Shalom, an Encino synagogue.

Cantor Marc has co-officiated interfaith ceremonies with priests, ministers, Buddhist monks, and kahuna shamans!

His 8 years as the host and producer of his own Los Angeles afternoon radio talk shows, and his ongoing voice-over work in recording studios are the reason he smiles appreciatively when wedding guests thank him after the ceremony, exclaiming “You Should Be on the RADIO with that Voice!”

Cantor Marc’s secular performing careers as a Comedy Hypnotist and a Musical Entertainer in venues all over the world, along with his private practice in hypnotherapy, have more than prepared him to deal calmly and creatively with any “surprise” at a wedding … from the smallest glitch or gust of wind, to (G-d Forbid!) life-threatening emergencies.

The most common praise Cantor Marc’s couples offer:

“You really understood us, and what we did, and didn’t want.

You ‘got us”, and made our wedding even more special than we thought was possible.

Ask Dr. Bunny. A remembrance of Bernie Lehrer? Charles Williams, guest

Charles Williams

Charles Williams joins Dr. Bunny to discuss friendship, reconnecting, poetry, and a very special friend they had in common, Bernie Lehrer.

Bernie Lehrer introduced Dr. Bunny & Charles, many years ago, and they have great memories of Bernie, who passed away in 2009, at the age of 84.  Bernie was a man who gave so much of himself, without expecting anything in return, and touched many people’s lives.

Dr. Bunny and Charles reconnected recently when Dr. Bunny came across Charles’ manuscript, The Stranger Within, that he had written years ago & asked her to read.  And through the beauty of Facebook, they reconnected!

Charles has also written poetry, and read a couple of poems for us, that he wrote for Bernie.  They are very beautiful & will resonate with anyone who has faced family discord, or contemplated life.

Besides being a gifted writer, Charles has held many careers – he was a police officer, worked for a cosmetics company, and also sold Lexus cars!

Tune in for a very uplifting and special interview!

Ask Dr. Bunny. Leon’s Good Stuff BBQ Sauce? Dennis Madden, guest

Dennis Madden and Dr. Bunny

Dennis Madden, CEO of ATRA (Mercury Broadcasting’s beloved Title Sponsor!), joins Dr. Bunny for a fun interview about “expanding your hobby”.  Dennis tells us how his love of creating BBQ sauce, led him to a delicious new venture – Leon’s Good Stuff BBQ Sauce!

Tune in as Dennis shares some fun stories – including one where he spontaneously created a BBQ sauce for a diabetic friend, and it ended up winning 1st prize at the Fair!  And by the way, who is Leon?

The Story of Leon:

  • The story of Leon’s goes back to the early 70’s when I took a cooking class in Jr. high.
Later, in high school, I went to work at small buffet restaurant; The Royal Fork. This
began my hobby of cooking and experimentation. I never wrote down my recipes; it was
just fun and most of it worked (I had a few duds, well… a lot of duds).
In the 90’s I got into making pickles and then stumbled onto BBQ! Fast forward to 2009.
BBQ was so much fun but damn, there’s got to be a way to make better sauce then
    what was at the supermarket.
I went on to make several varieties of sauce, not much better than from the store. But in
2011 I made a sauce that my wife could finally enjoy. “I might have something here”, I
thought. I entered it in the county fair and earned 3rd place. Since then, I’ve earned 1st
place every year with four different recipes.
In 2015 I became a certified BBQ Judge through KCBS (Kansas City BBQ Society), the
largest organizer of BBQ contests in the world (KCBS Judge #15452).
BBQ and saucing is still my favorite hobby but after pushing and prodding from my
friends and family, Leon’s Good Stuff is available to everyone. There are more recipes
coming soon and I hope you enjoy it and have a great time cooking!
    – Leon

Children’s Therapy Network (CTN) was established in 2000 by Cassandra Woods, Physical Therapist, for the purpose of providing multidisciplinary therapy programs and services to special needs children and their families. Ms. Woods believes in a holistic approach, and she recognized a need for a therapeutic community where everyone—the therapists, the families, and the children—are partners in a supportive, welcoming, empowering family-like environment. In order to accomplish this goal, Ms. Woods believes in a holistic approach, networking with providers of alternative therapies in order to treat not only the whole child, but the whole family as well.

Parent/Caregiver participation is not only encouraged but is expected, as we at Children’s Therapy Network believe that the family is the most important asset that a child has in achieving success. All of our therapists strive to empower the family to assist their child reach his/her highest potential.
Children’s Therapy Network provides a multidisciplinary approach to every child’s special needs.

Research has demonstrated that children who have been identified as being high risk for delays, or those born with a genetic disorder that puts them at risk for delays, make vast improvements in their development if they receive early intervention before the age of 3 years. Children who participated in an early intervention therapy program were found to need less therapeutic interventions in the future, as well as perform better in school and sports as compared to their counter peers who did not receive early intervention.

Children’s Therapy Network also provides services to children past the early intervention stage when it is found to be needed to continue to further their progress. CTN believes in a holistic approach, and offer several parenting classes, support groups, and therapeutic avenues.

Ask Dr. Bunny. Can women make a difference in politics? Merle DiVita, guest

Merle DiVita

Merle DiVita joins Dr. Bunny to discuss how women can make a difference in politics, regardless of political affiliation.

As women, we have an opportunity to do what we do best – solve problems!

Margaret Thatcher, the first woman Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, said “If you want something done, ask a woman”! In other words, a woman will get a job done, she won’t talk it to death!

Merle believes that every woman, regardless of political party, can contribute in some level – local, county, state, federal – to make a difference. She believes that every woman is concerned about the future for her children, aging parents, health care, and so much more.

Get out there and support the person who you believe in, the one who is doing what you believe is right. There are many ways to get involved, besides just writing a check (although money is important, too!). You can be part of a telephone bank, a mailing campaign, you can walk your neighborhood, put a sign in your yard – get involved!

Merle clarifies that all opinions expressed in this interview are her personal opinion only, and have no reflection at all on the stands, or opinions, of any business or corporation that she is involved with.

Check out these links Merle spoke of for more info on how you can get involved and make a difference:

Emily’s List:

The vision of Emily’s List:
Our vision is a government that reflects the people it serves, and decision makers who genuinely and enthusiastically fight for greater opportunity and better lives for the Americans they represent. We will work for larger leadership roles for pro-choice Democratic women in our legislative bodies and executive seats so that our families can benefit from the open-minded, productive contributions that women have consistently made in office.
“…Every day. Every election victory. We are helping to put women into office who have the power to put progressive change to work…” – Ellen R. Malcolm, Founder and Chair

The Ellevate network:

Ellevate Network believes in the positive impact of women in business.
Our mission is to help women advance in the workplace, both for themselves and the greater good. We strive to change the culture of business from the inside out – by investing in women.
Ellevate Network is a global professional women’s network, made up of women who are committed to elevating each other through education, inspiration, and opportunity. Our mission is to close the gender gap in business by providing women with a community to lean on and learn from. Ellevate also works with companies in the corporate world that are committed to gender diversity, and has a proven track record of changing business culture from the inside out.

The League of Women Voters:

We envision a democracy where every person has the desire, the right, the knowledge and the confidence to participate. We believe in the power of women to create a more perfect democracy.
The League is proud to be nonpartisan, neither supporting nor opposing candidates or political parties at any level of government, but always working on vital issues of concern to members and the public.
The League of Women Voters of the United States encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.

Ask Dr. Bunny. Sex? Nahed Stefany, guest

Nahed Stefany

Marriage, Family and Sex therapist, Nahed Stefany, joins Dr. Bunny to discuss how important the sex conversation is during couples therapy, and so much more.

Nahed has not always been a therapist – she started out with an engineering degree!  Learn how (and why!) she went from being an engineer to becoming a therapist – and her fascinating journey from Syria, to Mexico, to the United States.

In her therapist practice, Nahed found that working with couples without talking about sex left a big hole in the therapy conversation. She explains how she helps couples be comfortable talking about sex, and that it gives her a lot of information about how her client’s attachment was to their family of origin, and so much more. Sex is a very sacred relationship we have with our partners and an important part of the conversation.

Tune in for a fascinating interview with an incredibly amazing woman!

About Nahed Stefany:

A resident of California for the past 11 years, I was born and raised in the Middle East. I obtained my masters degree with honors in Marriage and Family Therapy from California State University, Northridge.
I am an adjunct professor at California Lutheran University. My Specialty is Cultural Diversity. I also teach various courses in the Psychology Department. My passion is to teach young people about different culture and help them develop tolerance and understanding to each other’s beliefs and traditions. I hope to contribute to the end of human violence and suffering. I believe that if I educate 10 people every day and set a good example as a human being, it will teach people around me who I am and spread awareness through my local community and into the next generation.

I have worked with victims and perpetrators of sexual assault and domestic violence.  I have provided grief counseling for children, adolescence and adults and am also available to help adopted children and their adoptive parents with attachment issues. I specialize in intercultural marriages and am dedicated to help the Middle Eastern community with the conflict they face with acculturation issues and teen cultural conflicts between their parent’s culture and growing up in the United States.

Because I am an immigrant myself, I am passionate about working with immigrant families and their children.

I am fluent in English, Arabic and Spanish.

Ask Dr. Bunny. How are words impactful? Joseph Gilbert, guest

Joseph Gilbert

Joseph Gilbert joins Dr. Bunny to discuss words, language, and how words are impactful.

A word is two things at once: it’s a sound & it refers to a thing. How are vocalizing and verbalizing different?  Vocalizing predates verbalizing. Vocalizing communicates emotion.

Verbalizing also communicates emotion, but it brings to mind specific things. Have you ever thought about that?

Joseph looks at language as the active creator of the culture. We can use a computer as a metaphor: the hardware would be the language, the culture would be the operating system and the software would be what you can do within that culture.

Did you ever stop and think about the feeling that goes along with a word? Did you ever wonder how the meaning of a word affects you, or evokes emotion in you?

The roots of our language go back to pre-Greek and pre-Roman times.

Tune in and learn how culture is passed along from generation to generation, and so much more.

This is a fascinating interview that will have you thinking about the things you say every day!

Computer expert Kier Shapiro joins Dr. Bunny to discuss all things computers.  Kier explains malware, viruses, fishing and scams – and how they can be avoided.  You’ll also find out how Dr. Bunny met Kier, and hear how Kier saved the day!

Tune in and learn how Kier got started in computers, how he got certified in certain software, and became an independent computer expert in 2000.

Whether it’s a computer, tablet or cell phone, technology is essential to our daily life, and this is an interview you don’t want to miss!

About Kier Shapiro & Kier Associates:

Kier Associates (formerly Kier Shapiro Consulting) was founded by Kier Shapiro in 1996 while he was employed by New Horizons Computer Learning Center.  At the time Kier was the training supervisor and a technical trainer himself. Frequently during the course of presenting classes, he was asked if he could perform consulting services and customized training outside of the offerings of New Horizons. Recognizing this need, he formed the consulting service and left New Horizons a year later.

In 1997 he was contracted by XO Communications (formerly NEXTLINK Communications) to design, install, train, and support a nationwide 600-user Sales Force Automation system built around ACT! and was subsequently hired. He primarily focused on his responsibility to XO Communications while still working part-time in the consulting capacity at Kier Associates. Kier stayed with XO Communications through spring of 2000 at which time he completed orchestrating the replacement of his SFA system with the next generation of Customer Relations Management applications, Siebel Systems.

Since spring of 2000, Kier has been focusing specifically on consulting services in the areas of custom ACT! installation and development, computer networking, computer system upgrade and support, and software training. As with all people in the computer industry, Kier has been keeping current on the latest cutting edge technologies and certifications.

Ask Dr. Bunny. Islands Of Deception, Lying With The Enemy? Connie Hood, guest

Author Connie Hood joins Dr. Bunny to discuss her new book, Islands Of Deception – Lying With The Enemy.

Connie shares a fascinating story that will have you intrigued from the very first moment. You’ll learn how she got this incredible information to start with, which in itself is fascinating! The story came to Connie in pieces, and the process was amazing. This is an interview you don’t want to miss!

About Islands Of Deception – Lying With The Enemy:

Imagine learning that your father was a spy, someone who had carefully concealed his cultural heritage and his WWII exploits. A sheaf of papers arrived in the mail more than 50 years after these events had taken place. What happened was verified in U.S. Army records and the conflicting accounts that he and his sister had related over the years. In this case, a new story emerged after time had erased the original scenes.

About Constance Hood:
Constance Hood has earned professional credits as an artist and a writer in both theatre and classical music. These interests and a passion for story telling first emerged while a student at Occidental College where she earned her BA in Comparative Literature as well as a minor in music. Her day job was as a literacy expert, educating students from “Which way do you hold the book?” through Advanced Placement Writing skills. Mrs. Hood served in the Los Angeles City Schools as a teacher, Literacy Coach, and Grants Coordinator, picking up graduate degrees in education along the way. She also contributed to textbooks and instructional materials in the arts and in language acquisition. Creative thinking and the arts remained at the center of all work, whether it was teaching students how to envision a scene, or leading adult workshops in theatre and writing. For nearly a decade she wrote instructional materials for Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles, and performed for the Los Angeles Philharmonic youth programs as a workshop artist.
