About the Ventura County Co-Creators Community:
Everyone wants to have a PEACEFUL WORLD in which to live. We are a local Service Group called the ‘Ventura County Co-Creators’ Community. Our Vision is simply to help co-create a Community and World that works well for all people. As part of our Vision, we have initiated a campaign to have a ‘Peace Pole’ erected right here in our beautiful City of Camarillo.
The ‘Peace Pole’ project was first introduced in the United States with the opening of the World Peace Prayer Society offices in San Francisco and New York in 1986, The International Year of Peace.
The Peace Pole is a hand-crafted granite monument that displays the message, “May Peace Prevail on Earth” on each of its 7 sides, each side in a different language. There are tens of thousands of Peace Poles in 180 countries all over the world dedicated as monuments to peace. They serve as constant reminders for us to visualize world peace.
In March, the group requested City Council approval to install the peace pole. After working out details, including the languages to be inscribed and its location, the group received permission to install it Sept. 11.
The group wanted to have the pole installed Sept. 21 on the International Day of Peace. That was a Wednesday, but the club felt it could get more people to attend if installation was held on a weekend.
Because Sept. 11 falls on a Sunday this year, the group decided to hold the ceremony that day.
