John Metcalf (Santa Clarita Valley Computer Club):
I have had problems with losing my W-Fi
connection. I can fix it temporarily by reselecting the connection in the network panel. However, I am looking for a permanent solution. It appears that I need to select which of my 2 connections is “Preferred” but Microsoft left this capability out of Windows 10. I did find a solution on-line but it requires a Command Line process. I have 2 available connections because my cable modem router has 2 Wi-Fi bands at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.
Sue Nethercott: Are you doing anything special for Pi Day (March 14)?
Tony Pizza: Member John McCoy has a problem. He had Win 7, made an image backup. Upgraded to Win 10. Made monthly incremental backups. The HD failed , installed a new one , and installed the image to it. Booted up as Win 7. Now that the free upgrade is over, can he somehow get Win 10? Says he has the Win 10 upgrade saved on a flash drive, but will it authenticate? Would MS have mercy on him?
Roger Houston: Got a nasty reminder of PC health. 4 year old desktop got stuck in some loop with constant Activity Light. After 7 hours of being unable to do taxes, I hard rebooted. System opens OK to first window and allows a user to be selected. Then problems appear. Only partial opening of User window and no data is observed. However I can see the original data in File Explorer from OS(C) and then User. Have Acronis backups. Did copy my latest tax files. DO I REINSTALL from Acronis or is there a System Refresh? I see “Reset this PC” and “Advanced startup” in Settings.
You have had some issues with clients getting Crypto Viruses lately. Do you have any thoughts?
