SNAP! Unhypnotizing Hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy stories and more! Teresa Crocker, guest.

Teresa Crocker joins Dr. Bunny today to discuss Hypnotherapy.  Teresa is a fellow Hypnotherapist and shares why she got involved in Hypnotherapy.  Recently, Teresa was able to see first-hand how amazingly beneficial Hypnotherapy can be, when her husband had a major surgery and did not need any pain meds – that was Hypnotherapy in action!

There’s also another first-hand story Teresa shares with us – why she had a major phobia of crickets & grasshoppers, and how she overcame that!  One Hypnotherapy session & it was gone (much to the amazement of her kids!).

Teresa and Dr. Bunny talk in depth about fears & phobias, and share stories about how quickly they’ve seen Hypnotherapy help people with a multitude of fears & phobias.

Teresa and Dr. Bunny also discuss their new “Opioid-Free! Release Yourself From Addiction” project  that they’ve launched with Dr. Johannes Ramirez Boden, and share their goals of helping people trust Hypnotherapy more than they trust the pill bottle.  They both see Hypnotherapy as a very important tool in fighting the opioid addiction epidemic, and explain their reasons why.

A powerfully informative interview you don’t want to miss!

About Teresa Crocker:

Having been involved in the recovery business since 1988 I watched with growing concern as the use of opioids as an ‘automatic go-to’ for ANY type of pain became the norm. Personally, I have suffered lower back pain since my early 20’s when I had one too many car accidents and know first hand what chronic pain is. I became active in exploring alternative ways to manage my pain without the use of drugs. But I also became aware that it can be quite an expensive road that often yields to zero results.

Then I went to a hypnotist to stop smoking – and it was successful. I kept thinking: if this can help chronic (ab)users of substances as addictive as tobacco, why not pain meds? And, if it can re-direct the neurons in my brain that have an established pathway for years – to a NEW pathway that doesn’t include smoking, why not with other habitual thinking processes?

This seemed a perfect fit for me as, in running two successful Women’s Sober Living homes and being the chair for the Sober Living Coalition of Ventura County I am a voice for those already struggling with a drug problem.

I got certified in hypnotherapy and went on to study under well-established hypnotherapists such as Dr. Bunny Vreeland, Shelly Stockwell-Nicholas and Richard Nongard to name a few. I  got certified in Pain Management by Seth Deborah Roth, who is not only a CRNA but also the President of Hypnotherapy for Health and became a member of the International Hypnosis Federation.

It has been exciting and enriching for me to be a part of helping those who wish, to empower themselves with the skills necessary to set in motion a different path. A path of their own making. Because – it is never too late to be who you always wanted to be!

SNAP! Unhypnotizing Hypnotherapy. Opioid-Free! Release Yourself From Addiction

Dr. Bunny Vreeland has joined forces with Dr. Johannes Ramirez Boden and Teresa Crocker to address opioid addiction.  Together they created the program “Opioid-Free!  Release Yourself From Addiction” to provide positive solutions to this growing epidemic.

Board Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist and Robbins-Madanes trained Coach, Dr. Bunny Vreeland, has spent 20+ years helping her clients become free of addictions to cigarettes, gambling, food, alcohol, and more, so when she heard about the opioid epidemic, her first thought was how beneficial hypnotherapy could be.

Dr. Bunny is a graduate of the Neuro Concepts Institute in Laguna Hills, CA, she earned her Ph.D. in Hypnotherapy from Huntington Pacific University in 2007.  In addition, she’s a certified Bariatric Hypnotherapist and certified Hypnotic Anesthesiologist.

Opioid addiction became personal to Dr. Bunny after a family member struggled with addiction following a surgery.

WHAT ARE OPIOIDS AND WHAT IS THE OPIOID EPIDEMIC?

“Opioids” is a name given to drugs that bind to opioid receptors in the body. They include everything from heroin and fentanyl to prescription pills like oxycodone (OxyContin®), hydrocodone (Vicodin®), codeine and morphine.

DID YOU KNOW THAT –

More than 115 people in America die every day due to accidental misuse of these drugs–that’s one person every 12 minutes–and “the opioid epidemic” is the term used to describe this health crisis.

HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?

In the 1990s, there was a massive marketing blitz from pharmaceutical companies for their new opioid pills. This coincided with a nationwide push to take patient pain more seriously. Early marketing materials from pharmaceutical companies made reassurances about their product, claiming their opioid pills were virtually non-addictive. However, heroin is one of the most addictive drugs on the planet and prescription opioids are chemically similar to heroin.

Meanwhile, illegal drugs flooded in–like heroin and illicitly-produced fentanyl–which people turned to once their prescriptions ran out, or they craved something stronger, or they needed something less expensive than prescription opioids. The National Institute of Drug Abuse reports nearly 80% of heroin users started with prescription opioids. And during that 1999-2016 time frame, overdose deaths from heroin increased by 7 times. And deaths from synthetic opioids like fentanyl increased almost 21 times.
This is the opioid epidemic. And we want to help.

SNAP! Unhypnotizing Hypnotherapy. How can you get off, and stay off, drugs? Nick Masella, guest.

Nick Masella, Founder of the Positive Intentions Foundation in Chicago, joins Dr. Bunny to share his story about being drug-free for 33 years himself, and the process of how he helped his son overcome addiction, as well.

Nick tells us about the different things he tried in his quest to help his son, and how some things that he thought would work, didn’t.  He found that he needed to realize that his son’s addiction had nothing to do with his (Nick’s) sobriety.  It was such a learning process to be a parent, and to be an addict, that he started to realize he could talk to many people – the parents, the addicts – and could relate to them both.  He began speaking at meetings and found that there was such an epidemic.

Nick eventually formed a non-profit organization called Positive Intentions Foundation and created a sober living facility, which builds an environment of support through the after-treatment stage of sobriety.

Tune in and learn more about Nick’s incredible journey, and how Positive Intentions Foundation helps addicts through the difficult process of recovery.  An uplifting & informative interview!

About Positive Intentions:

Positive Intentions’ mission is to become part of the solution in saving lives affected by the drug epidemic.

Our goal is to help addicts after medical treatment has concluded to build a foundation strong enough to support long term sobriety.

Our goal is to prevent addiction through education.

Our goal is to end the stigma and suffering of those affected by this disease.

SNAP! Unhypnotizing Hypnotherapy. Opioids from a Physician’s perspective. Dr. Bob, guest.

In today’s show, Dr. Bunny is joined by her friend, Dr. Bob, a longtime physician, to discuss the opioid epidemic, changes in the medical profession, and so much more.  Dr. Bob shares valuable information and insight from his 50 years in the medical field, and tells us how advanced surgeries have become, and how opioid use and prescriptions have changed.

Dr. Bob believes the opioid crisis is the result of multiple factors, and everyone involved – the physicians, drug manufacturers, drug distributors, retailers, public health officials, law enforcement, and policy makers – need to come together to drive meaningful solutions forward.  Dr. Bob says he believes there is no single solution, it’s a partnership to move in the right direction.

According to a recent study, several million people have opioid overuse from opioids they bought on the street, not from a prescription given by a doctor.  This is something that has changed drastically from Dr. Bob’s early career.

These days it is common for a doctor to write a prescription for more pain medication than is actually needed, just in case the patient needs it (or for insurance reasons), however this has led to many people having excess pain meds (opioids) being stored in their medicine cabinets.  This can commonly lead to overuse, use by other family members, or even sales of the opioid to someone who does not need it, which causes a bigger issue.

Dr. Bob encourages everyone to learn more about safer use and storage of medications, and what to do with unused pills.

A very informative & interesting interview that you need to hear!

SNAP! Unhypnotizing Hypnotherapy. Opioids as a helpful tool?

Melissa Duker, Mary Kay Independent Sales Director, joins Dr. Bunny to share her incredible journey with having a brain aneurysm, brain surgery, healing & how opioids are a tool that she uses sparingly when pain is extreme.  Melissa chooses to see each experience as a learning tool, and shares how she keeps positive in the face of such challenges.

Melissa is an amazing woman, with an incredible attitude, and we’ll also hear why Dr. Bunny believes Melissa has all the 8 essential qualities of a leader, as defined by Forbes magazine.

A wonderfully inspirational and moving interview!

What is an aneurysm? (From Wikipedia)

An aneurysm is a localized, abnormal, weak spot on a blood vessel wall that causes an outward bulging, likened to a bubble or balloon. Aneurysms are a result of a weakened blood vessel wall, and may be a result of a hereditary condition or an acquired disease. Aneurysms can also be a nidus (starting point) for clot formation (thrombosis) and embolization. The word is from Greek: ἀνεύρυσμα, aneurysma, “dilation”, from ἀνευρύνειν, aneurynein, “to dilate”. As an aneurysm increases in size, the risk of rupture increases, leading to uncontrolled bleeding. Although they may occur in any blood vessel, particularly lethal examples include aneurysms of the Circle of Willis in the brain, aortic aneurysms affecting the thoracic aorta, and abdominal aortic aneurysms. Aneurysms can arise in the heart itself following a heart attack, including both ventricular and atrial septal aneurysms.
