Ask Dr. Bunny. Can opioids be helpful? Cynthia Gstettenbauer, guest.

Cynthia Gstettenbauer joins Dr. Bunny to discuss her opioid journey, and how opioids have helped her.

When Cynthia was 12, she was pushed from a tree house & became partially paralyzed, or what is known as a partial paraplegic. She spent several months in the hospital and had several surgeries. Cynthia can feel things, but in a very intense way, which is very challenging – but even more challenging when doctors didn’t believe she could actually feel!

Cynthia shares how painful it was just to try to sleep, and how no amount of money could buy a mattress that provided any relief. For Cynthia, opioids have been a very valuable tool, but the road to finding doctors that will listen, formulate a pain management plan, and truly work with her, has been very long. She now has a wonderful team of doctors that work together – what a blessing!

Tune in and learn how Cynthia became the President of the Ms. Wheelchair California Pageant, and so much more! Cynthia is truly an inspiration and this is an interview you will never forget!

Ask Dr. Bunny. Living through hell in San Quentin, and then finding your purpose? Ruben Chavez, guest

Ruben Chavez and his lovely wife, Teresa

Ruben Chavez joins Dr. Bunny to discuss living through hell, living to tell the tale, and finding his purpose in life. Ruben became a heroin addict at age 15 and spent the next 37 years chasing the drug.

Ruben served over 25 years in institutions, became a bank robber – and basically did just about anything to get his fix. He has 3 siblings that are dead now due to substance abuse.

Ruben shares about his experience in prison, and how prison changes a person. He spent 6 years in solitary confinement and tells us how holding a baby one day in the visiting area created feelings that were especially upsetting, and how those feelings led to anger and rage.

Ruben’s wife, Teresa, also joins the interview to discuss her part of Ruben’s journey. Find out how a good girl from Huntington Beach – who never sought out “bad boys” – met & married the “bad boy turned good”. She was struck immediately by Ruben’s spirituality and gentle spirit. A fascinating story in itself!

Ruben has found the answer to living without drugs and alcohol, but it took him a lifetime of pain and prisons. He now helps other people on their path to sobriety.  He loves the saying “I’m grateful for the gift of a new life”, and it’s a life that Ruben has found through a 12-step program. “My responsibility is to stay clean and sober, and help another alcoholic/addict. That is my primary purpose”, he says.

Ruben tells us about the turning point in his life and how he asked God for an answer, and received it: In order to change your life you have to have a change of thought and attitude.

Ruben shares how he created Ruben’s Place sober living house, and how he & Teresa now have 4 sober living homes.

Tune in and listen to Ruben’s incredible journey through addiction, pain and recovery – and how he has turned his life into a purpose to help others. This is truly an uplifting and inspirational story that you do not want to miss!

About Stefanie Tovar:

Stefanie Tovar began her yoga journey as a performing artist through the practice of Baptiste Power Yoga in 2004. Stefanie travelled the world as a performing artist and found yoga gave her a sense of groundedness and serenity, no matter where her work and suitcases took her.

While touring in her professional offering of performing arts, Stefanie felt a feeling of isolation and disconnect from the world around her and craved an opportunity to hold space for herself and others to make a lasting impact.

Tragedy of losing a loved one suddenly hit her heart, and she decided to make a big change; from the stage, makeup and lights to the dark solace of the yoga room to process her grief, diving into introspection to uncover a new way of being in the world.

Initially Stef thought she would get her Yoga Teacher Training Certificate and move to NYC to reclaim her pursuit of her ambitions in the arts, but love and yoga kept her in Texas. It was there that she met her Bhakti Yoga Teacher Sean Johnson, of Sean Johnson and the Wild Lotus Band who lead her back to her creative spirit…This time sharing her love of music and storytelling to help herself and others heal and renew in a yoga room, one breath at a time. Stef is honored to be able to share part of her Bhakti Yoga practice with the support of Sony’s label, The Orchard through the release of her Debut EP Album “Shine a Light”.

Stefanie also found inspiration to bring about more tangible action within her Yoga community after shifts in power November 2017. Stef’s Facebook Group, Hanuman Homies became a nonprofit entity, Hanuman Homies in April 2017.

Hanuman Homies champions nonprofits and vulnerable communities by hosting donation drives and Outreach Yoga with hopes to spread awareness and more acts of Seva Yoga: Yoga that fuses Karma (Action) Yoga with Bhakti (Devotion) Yoga. Hanuman Homies also offers yoga to vulnerable communities with a special focus on youth.

Stefanie feels so blessed to have yoga, social outreach, and arts in her life, and hopes to be able to share resilient light and love with Yoga with you with all of her being – whether through streaming loving sounds or mindful movement.
