Q&A with CIPCUG Session 147

John Weigle   Microsoft Publisher 2016’s spellcheck is switching back and forth from English to Spanish and tells me that level (as in Gold Level) is not correct. I’ve set the default language to English several times, but it keeps bouncing back and forth. Any ideas on how to make it stay in English? I have enough trouble typing in one language without trying two.

Rosalie Sherbrooke   When I reopen a window from my taskbar, it opens sort of smallish in the upper left corner of the screen. So, I just drag the corner to where I want it.  I wondered if this is happening to others.

Kenneth H Smith   Yesterday, someone asked about cleaning out our browser history. Is it OK to use CCleaner, perhaps once a week? Is the free version ‘good-enough’?

Q&A with CIPCUG session 145

Jerry Crocker Windows10 – Edge browser reading mail from “View on Nextdoor” The link works on lap top, same browser. Link works on cellphone just not on computer

Roger Houston I have been unable to find a stud finder to work on my lath & plaster walls. Recently Walabot DIY Plus claims to be the ultimate stud finder for your home projects. This smartphone accessory can now see through lath and plaster to identify studs, wires, and pipes”. $89.

Jerry Crocker Friday I got a note – Windows UPDATE…I opt to wait. Just so happens my monitor starts to go black – then back on and off and on. Go to bed. AM no better, If I turn off computer… It will try to update if I restart, so off to Fry’s. Got a new BenQ 27″…get home only to see BOX had been opened and re-taped shut. All works. BUT still have same browser problem

Fred Krueger I was wondering why lately why my monitor goes black for 4 seconds for a time? Usually when I am reading from an item I have clicked on. I am using the new windows update but this has been going on for at least 4 months. windows 10, 1903

Q&A session 143

Fred Krueger:   I see on the news that direct TV has lost a lot of subscribers. Does direct tv leave the dishes on the houses and I

see a lot of houses with 2 and 3 dishes, I assume some of them may be for a connection to a different language satellite. Or is there some other reason for so many dishes? Also, I assume when people talk about cutting the cord all they are cutting is the cable tv connection, so if you disconnect from the cable provider the cable is still hooked to the tv, who’s server is the feed coming through?

Sue Nethercott:   Addonchat seems to have disappeared overnight. Anyone heard anything?
